Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra vs. iPhone 13 Pro Max: battle of the year

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra vs. iPhone 13 Pro Max: battle of the year

Choosing between two of the best smartphones on the market can be a difficult task, although an iPhone 13 Pro Max versus Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra comparison is helpful . Each phone has its own set of qualities and particular features that stick out, so it’s not easy to make a decision between the two.

Samsung’s 6.8-inch behemoth, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, has one of the greatest displays we’ve ever tested and one of the best cameras we’ve ever tested. The S Pen, however, is the most significant addition. There are five reasons to acquire the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Extreme, and two reasons to pass it up (speaking about ultra devices with a S Pen). With a starting price of $1,199, the S22 Ultra is a hefty investment.

According to our in-depth look at the iPhone 13 Pro Max, it’s the best iPhone yet, boasting a stunning 6.7-inch OLED screen and its own set of impressive cameras, including an intriguing new Cinematic video mode. The A15 Bionic processor is lightning fast, and the phone’s battery life is excellent.

Galaxy S22 Ultra vs iPhone 13 Pro Max: Price and value

The starting price of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is $1,099, which is $100 more than the starting price of the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Starting with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, you have the option to upgrade for $100 extra to 12GB of RAM and 256GB. It costs $1,399 and $1,599 to get a 512GB model and a 1TB one.

iPhone 13 Pro Max’s starting price for 128GB of storage is $1,099. 6GB of RAM is widely believed to be the amount of RAM on the new iPhone. If you want to get a 1TB model for $1.599 you’ll have to shell out $1.299 for the 256GB model.

Because the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a cheaper beginning price, it’s a better value overall.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is the winner.

Galaxy S22 Ultra vs iPhone 13 Pro Max: Design

In terms of design, Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra has a more flush camera array than Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro Max. There are a lot more lenses on the rear of the iPhone, and they’re all grouped in one big block.

One of the advantages of Samsung is that it does not have a bezel on its screen. Although the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s notch is smaller than it was before, the punch hole on the Galaxy S22 Ultra is still more annoying than the notch on the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

With a 6.4-inch height by 3-inch width by 0.4-inch weight, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is slightly larger but lighter than the iPhone 13 Pro Mac, which is just slightly smaller and lighter.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is the winner in this category.

Galaxy S22 Ultra vs iPhone 13 Pro Max: Display

Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra and Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro Max both have great AMOLED panels. For these and other reasons, I give Samsung’s phone an edge over the iPhone.
Even though it has a Delta-E score of 0.21, where 0 is perfect, Apple’s panel has an advantage in colour accuracy. At 0.25, the S22 Ultra performed slightly worse.

Samsung has confirmed that some Galaxy S22 Ultras with Exynos processors are experiencing display issues, and they are working on a solution. The S22 Ultra’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 variant, which we evaluated, does not appear to be affected by this problem.

It’s also nice that the Galaxy S22 Ultra lets you choose between Natural and Vivid colour profiles, which I prefer when watching films.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is the winner in this category.

Galaxy S22 Ultra vs iPhone 13 Pro Max: Cameras

Compared to the S21 Ultra, the S22 Ultra has a 108MP main camera with a bigger sensor, which is designed to capture more light. A 12MP wide-angle lens and dual 10-megapixel telephoto lenses round out the camera’s impressive optical and 100x space zoom capabilities.

In addition to the main, ultrawide, and telephoto 12MP lenses, the iPhone 13 Pro Max has three additional 12MP sensors. In addition to increasing the main sensor’s size, Apple did so to allow for more light to reach the sensor. However, the iPhone 13 Pro Max only has a 3x optical zoom capability.

This image of chrysanthemum blossoms was captured indoors using the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The S22 Ultra appears to struggle in this close-up image, although the petals on the right side appear to have more detail.

This Night Mode photo of a bar cart is a dead heat between the two phones, in my opinion. Despite a brighter and crisper picture, the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s background glasses and Kettle One bottles appear clearer than those on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. S22 Ultra has a yellowish hue to its shot, which is noticeable.

Choosing between these two selfies isn’t an easy one. While I prefer the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s 40MP front-facing camera, the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s photo is brighter and has more detail in my jacket, which I like.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is the winner.

Galaxy S22 Ultra vs iPhone 13 Pro Max: Battery life and charging

Although the 5,000 mAh battery on the Galaxy S22 Ultra performed well in our tests, it didn’t last as long as expected. After 10 hours and 18 minutes of continuous web browsing at a screen brightness of 150 nits, the S22 Ultra achieved its best battery life in the Tom’s Guide battery test. Having lasted over two hours longer at 12:16, the iPhone 13 Pro Max earns a spot on our list of best phones for battery life.

Even so, the Galaxy S22 Ultra provides 45W charging, which is faster than the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s 20W. It’s the difference between reaching 50% capacity in 20 minutes vs. 30 minutes, for example.

You can compare the battery life of the Galaxy S22 Ultra with those of other phones in our in-depth review.

Galaxy S22 Ultra vs iPhone 13 Pro Max: Overall winner

With a final score this close, it’s clear that both the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and the iPhone 13 Pro Max are top-notch devices. They’re separated by just three points.
This comparison shows that the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a substantial advantage because of its longer battery life, faster performance, and superior image quality in a number of comparisons. Samsung’s cameras are improving, but they’re still not up to the level of Apple’s best.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra may be the best premium Android phone money can buy, but the iPhone 13 Pro Max comes out on top in the end.
