The Japanese sport of sumo is its national sport. Sumo is a physically demanding and intense sport that dates back over 1,500 years. The primary concept is to force the opposing wrestler to step outside of the “dohyo” (circular ring) or touch the floor with something other than their feet. The majority of the time, matches last only a few seconds; however, depending on the technique, strength, and talent of the two wrestlers fighting, matches can go much longer. Although it appears to be an easy endeavour, becoming a professional wrestler needs extensive training and skill.
