The skin is the body’s largest and heaviest organ, covering an average of 20 square feet. The skin’s most obvious function is to shield the inside of the body from the elements, but it does so much more.

Aside from acting as a protective barrier, the skin also aids in the regulation of internal temperature and allows people to sense the world through nerve endings.

The skin is a multifaceted organ. There are 650 sweat glands, 20 blood arteries, and over 1,000 nerve endings per square inch of skin. Despite being only a few millimetres thick, the skin accounts for approximately one-seventh of a person’s overall weight.

In this post, we’ll go over the fundamentals of skin, including how it’s made and what it’s made of.

His curiosity led him to research and findings on germination, cultivation and propagation – amongst many other discoveries, which included the grouping of plants into categories. He was a student of Aristotle, the Greek philosopher and scientist, and is probably deemed as one of the earliest founders of botanical research.

The average distance from the physical centre to the surface is used to calculate the Earth's mean radius, which is based on a vast number of samples. The figure, denoted by the letter R, is roughly 6,371,000 metres (6.371 x 106 m). This equates to 3,960 statute miles or 6,371 kilometres (km).
