Dwayne Haskins, quarterback of Pittsburgh Steelers, died after being hit by a dump truck.

Dwayne Haskins, quarterback of Pittsburgh Steelers, died after being hit by a dump truck.

Early Saturday morning, a dump vehicle hit Dwayne Haskins, who was strolling along a South Florida highway. At the time, Haskins was twenty four.

According to Lt. Indiana, Haskins was pronounced dead at the scene by a Florida Highway Patrol officer.

“He was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Interstate 595 when there was oncoming traffic,” Miranda said in an email.

At the time, she didn’t explain why Haskins was driving near Fort Lauderdale. The highway was closed for several hours as a result of the accident, and Miranda says it’s “an open traffic homicide investigation.”

In South Florida, Haskins was training alongside other Pittsburgh Steelers quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers.

Dwayne Haskins’ death has left Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin “devastated and at a loss for words,” the team said in a statement. “Upon arriving in Pittsburgh, he quickly became a member of our Steelers family and was one of our hardest workers on the field and in our community. Dwayne was a great teammate, but more importantly, a great friend to many. I’m inconsolable at the loss.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Kalabrya, and his entire family at this difficult time.

Haskins spent two tumultuous seasons with Washington before signing with Pittsburgh before the 2014-15 season.

Dwayne Haskins, the Steelers’ starting quarterback in his second season, had been in South Florida working out with his teammates.

The Commanders’ Daniel and Tanya Snyder released a statement saying they were “devastated” by the news of Dwayne Haskins Jr.’s death. “He was a young man with a lot of potential and an infectious personality.” It would be an understatement to say that we are devastated by this news. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dwayne’s family and all those who knew and loved him.”

“Dwayne was a talented young man who had a long life ahead of him,” Commanders coach Ron Rivera said in a statement. In the midst of such sorrow, I’m at a loss for words. As a teammate, I know he will be greatly missed. Sincere condolences and prayers go out to the Haskins family.”

Haskins was well-known in his hometown of Potomac, Maryland, where he played three seasons of varsity football at Bullis High School.

His 1st season, he started 7 games, but he was benches after a thirty -10 loss to baltimore in his second season. Haskins was released by Washington at the end of the season and went unclaimed on waivers. A reserve/future contract with Pittsburgh was signed by him in January 2021.

Haskins said he was “humbled” by the decision and vowed to work hard and learn from Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph. When Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger went into the COVID-19 protocol the night before the game, he was called into the starting lineup as a third-stringer, but he only appeared in one game.

Rudolph tweeted, “Devastated” in response to the news that Haskins had died.

In the words of Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt, “Haskins was always an upbeat guy. “

As a restricted free agent in March, the Steelers were happy to sign Haskins to a one-year contract extension after both Tomlin and general manager Kevin Colbert noted the quarterback’s progress since joining the team in 2017. Initially, he was expected to compete with Rudolph and Trubisky for a spot.

‘We’re excited to see what Dwayne can provide, either from competition or maybe he evolves as a starter,’ Colbert said in January.

It was at Ohio State that Haskins had the most success as a player. Haskins was named the Buckeyes’ starting quarterback for the 2018-19 season after spending the first two years of his career behind J.T. Barrett.

It was Haskins’ performance that backed up Ohio State’s decision to give him the starting job. In addition to 28 school records, he set Big Ten single-season records for passing yards (four thousand eight hundred thirty one), touchdown passes (fifhty), and total offensive yards (four thousand nine hundred thirty nine).

Haskins was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy and a third-team All-American after a record-setting season.

In his final game as a Buckeye, Haskins threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns against Washington in the Rose Bowl.

“The loss of Dwayne is beyond tragic and extremely difficult to process,” current Ohio State coach Ryan Day, who was Haskins’ position coach and the Buckeyes’ acting head coach in 2018, wrote on Twitter. “For those who were close to him, he was more than just a great football player. He had a big heart, an old soul, and an infectious smile. “Ohio State University and our entire football team are devastated,” the university’s statement read.

The university also issued a statement: “The Ohio State Department of Athletics is terribly saddened to learn the death of Dwayne Haskins Saturday morning.” We are all thinking of the Haskins family during this difficult time. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, current and former teammates, coaches, friends and relatives.”

Former Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer tweeted on Saturday, “Heartbroken to hear of the loss of Dwayne Haskins Jr.” “My heartfelt condolences and prayers are with his wonderful family. One of the greatest quarterbacks in Ohio State history, but a better son, teammate, and friend than anyone else. “Praise be to God!!”

The Pittsburgh Penguins held a moment of silence in honour of Haskins prior to their Saturday afternoon game against the Washington Capitals.
